Territorio de Zaguates, "Land of the strays" is a no-kill dog sanctuary that rescues stray dogs. On your visit there, you can join the hundreds of the pack's dogs in their hike in the hills surrounding the shelter, as you play and socialize with them while enjoying the beautiful nature of the area.
If you want to spend time with hundreds of dogs, and take a hike in the beautiful nature of Costa Rica - you should definitely visitthis sanctuary. There are organized visits from 09:00 am to 12:30 pm when visitors can come to know place and play with the pack, and take a 3 Kilometer walk with the pack around the hills of the farm. The purpose of these visits is for the dogs to receive lots of affection and socialize with the people and families. The visits are free, and your own pets are also welcome to join (as long as they're friendly).

Volunteering options are also available. Volunteers can help with everyday chores and activities is always needed. The task include Bathing the doggies, trimming nails, cleaning ears and eyes. helping in dog socialization, helping in cleanup of the property and general maintenance, painting, gardening and more.

Territorio de Zaguates, translating to "land of the strays" is a No-Kill Shelter for dogs - a sanctuary that doesn't believe in euthanasia as a solution to the problem of abandoned dogs in Costa Rica. The shelter strives to find homes for all the dogs that in their care, and serve as a temporary home for hundreds of puppies looking for a second chance. However, they also serve as the permanent home to many others who may never find their own family.
Territorio de Zaguates is a non-profit organization founded by husband and wife Lya Battle and Alvaro Saumet, who have been working on promoting animal welfare in Costa Rica for the past 8 years.
The main goals of the shelter:
1. Rescue and improve the quality of life of stray dogs. 2. Promote the adoption of animals rescued by the organization. 3. Reduce the number of stray dogs by sterilization of the rescues, and raising awareness to the importance of dog sterilization .
