Is there really animal abuse in tourism?
Unfortunately, yes.
A lot of the popular touristic attractions that have animals are actually a torture in disguise.
Let's take Thailand for example. One of the most common tourist attractions there is elephant riding. Too many of the tourists that enjoy this kind of activities are not aware of the abuse and torture that are involved in it. These elephants are taken away from their mothers at a very young age and undergo a terrible process in order to break their spirit and make them obedient for tourists to be able to ride on. They are restricted, deprived of food and water, and beaten up for days, until they no longer have the power to resist, and will do whatever they are obliged to. And this is just one example. The same practice happens in numerous places, abusing hundreds of tigers, lions, monkeys, snakes, bears and other animals, worldwide.
